Type 2 Diabetes at the Cellular Level

Author's Note: If your goal is to get your Type 2 diabetes under control (stop the rot), or possibly reverse your diabetes, then is critical that you acquire the proper knowledge to understand and learn how this disease works to rot out your body from the inside out. In addition, it may be just as important to unlearn a lot of myths you believe to be true about diabetes, drugs, and nutrition.

The following is some of that knowledge and information that you need to understand about Type 2 diabetes.

And, once you understand how diabetes rots out your body, it will make it easier to understand how to stop the rot, and reverse the disease.

What is Type 2 Diabetes?
In simple terms, Type 2 diabetes is a rotting disease that gradually spreads the rot and damage throughout the body, driven by cellular inflammation, insulin resistance (hyperinsulinemia), celluar dehydration, toxic overload, mineral deficiencies, and other nutrient deficiencies.

Type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, NIDDM) has reached
epidemic levels in the United States and other countries around the world. There are more than 24 million diabetics in the U.S. and more than 190 million worldwide.

Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disorder where the body is unable to maintain glucose homeostasis and the cells have lost the ability to effectively utilize the insulin produced by the pancreas.  This is known as insulin resistance.

Type 2 diabetes used to be called adult-onset diabetes, because it primarily affected older adults. But today with more children being overweight and sedentary, Type 2 diabetes is affecting children as well as adults. As a result, Type 2 diabetes has reached such an epidemic level that 1 out of every 2 people knows someone who is diabetic! In fact, you may be surprised at the number of famous people and celebrities who are diabetic.

Type 2 diabetes is a combination of
cellular dehydration, nutrient starvation (vitamin/mineral deficiencies), insulin resistanceleptin resistance, cellular inflammation, lack of glucose homeostasis, rotting, toxicity, and oxidative stress that affects trillions of cells and damages many of these cells -- which can lead to a dysregulated immune system. In other words, Type 2 diabetes is more than just a "blood sugar" disease!

This is important to understand because once you realize that
controlling your blood sugar is only one component to defeat and reverse your diabetes, achieving the ultimate goal of "death to your diabetes" is within your reach.

Insulin resistance
and cellular inflammation reinforce each other via a positive feedback loop, causing more cell damage and preventing your body's cells from effectively using the insulin produced by the pancreas. That is, the insulin receptors on the surface of each cell are damaged (inflamed), ignoring the presence of insulin in your blood and refusing to allow glucose from your blood to enter your cells.

Death to Diabetes: Reverse Type 2 Diabetes

Cell Biology
The cells in your body require the glucose (as fuel) in order to produce energy. Without this fuel, your cells cannot produce energy and perform their functions.

Some of this glucose is stored in the liver. But most of it enters the bloodstream and travels to the cells to be used as fuel. Glucose needs the help of a hormone called
insulin to enter the cells. Insulin, which is made in the pancreas, is released into the bloodstream in response to the presence of glucose in the blood (i.e. after eating food). Think of insulin as a key. When insulin reaches a cell, it attaches to the cell wall. This signals the cell to create an opening that allows glucose to enter the cell.

But with Type 2 diabetes, your
cells don’t respond properly to insulin. Because of this, less glucose than normal moves into cells. This is called insulin resistance. In response, the pancreas makes more insulin. As less and less glucose enters cells, it builds up to a harmful level in the bloodstream. This is known as high blood sugar or hyperglycemia. The result is Type 2 diabetes. The cells become starved for energy, which can leave you feeling tired and rundown.                  Death to Diabetes: Reverse Type 2 Diabetes

Blood Glucose Mismanagement

The sustained high blood glucose levels drive the beta cells of the pancreas to produce more insulin, which may cause the beta cells to begin to "wear out". Gradually, this may lead to beta cell dysfunction, which will reduce insulin production and cause blood glucose levels to rise even further, creating a vicious cycle of metabolic, biochemical and hormonal imbalances.

Over a period of years, these metabolic imbalances of
insulin resistance, beta cell dysfunction, and cellular inflammation continue to feed each other, spreading more damage to more cells, leading to an increase in the production of fat cells and the need for more insulin from those cells. This increases the fat storage, especially in the abdomen area, while inhibiting fat metabolism because of the excess insulin (known as hyperinsulinemia).

In addition, there is an increase in oxidative stress, glycation, and a depletion of key micronutrients such as potassium, chromium, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E causing a severe nutrient deficiency.

All of this dysfunction leads to more cell membrane damage and a buildup of homocysteine, which causes damage to the artery walls. This leads to arterial plaque formation, an increase in blood viscosity and blood pressure, and, in some cases, an increase in cholesterol.  That's why many diabetics end up taking prescription medications for diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. Unfortunately, this combination of medications just make matters worse.

However, there is more to diabetes than the insulin resistance and inflammation. There are other biochemical and hormonal imbalances  (root causes) that fuel diabetes, including excess oxidation, adrenal fatigue, toxicity, and  insufficient nutrient absorption by the gastrointestinal system. All of these biochemical and hormonal imbalances must be addressed in order to properly treat diabetes and provide the opportunity to reverse the disease.

Since billions of cells have been damaged by the diabetes, the body requires a comprehensive nutritional and detox program that removes the excess toxins, reduces the oxidative damage, and initiates the body's repair process to repair the cellular damage and heal the body.

If Type 2 diabetes goes untreated, the excess insulin and excess blood glucose (hyperglycemia) damages the pancreatic beta cells and the body's blood vessels. This can lead to thicker blood, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high homocysteine, high c-reactive protein, arterial plaque formation, and low levels of chromium, magnesium, calcium, zinc, CoQ10, Vitamin C, and Vitamin E.

Please Note!
These vitamin and mineral deficiencies tend to lead so-called nutritional experts to recommend that diabetics take a bunch of vitamins and minerals to fight their diabetes. Nothing could be further from the truth! Instead, a better treatment strategy is to feed the body the whole foods that contain these key vitamins and minerals, i.e. green/bright-colored vegetables, sea vegetables, beans, wild salmon, organic eggs, and some dark-colored fruits.

These complications affect nearly every organ in the body, leading to
kidney failure and dialysis, diabetic retinopathy and blindness, peripheral neuropathy and amputation, serious skin infections, gangrene, cardiovascular disease, stroke, disability, osteoporosis, Alzheimer's disease, hearing damage, nonketotic hyperglycemic hyperosmolar syndrome, and death.

However, the good news is that these biological changes and metabolic biochemical imbalances can be corrected and these complications prevented with a superior nutrition, anti-inflammatory foods, a proper exercise regimenspiritual health, and less stress in your life.

Statin Drug-Cholesterol Hoax

We all know that heart disease is one of the leading killers of people  around the world, particularly highest in countries such as the U.S. and Australia.

Reverse Type 2 diabetes and heart disease
However, did you know that there are several medical studies worldwide that clearly show that higher cholesterol levels in the body actually increases longevity instead of decreasing it?

Yes, you heard that right! People with high cholesterol have been statistically shown to live longer and healthier than people with low cholesterol in several studies. There are multiple references for this phenomenon in Shane Ellison's controversial book, The Hidden Truth about Cholesterol Lowering Drugs,  Dr. Uffe Ravnskov's (MD, PhD) book The Cholesterol Myths, as well as Sally Fallon and Mary Enig's book, Nourishing Traditions.

So why in the world are the pharmaceutical and medical industry pushing for practically everyone on the planet to "lower their cholesterol"? Well, the first, and more innocent answer, is flawed medical studies from decades ago that have been accepted as fact and never fully analyzed for their validity.

Another answer is that this practice of recommending that half of the planet takes a cholesterol lowering medication (such as statin drugs), regardless of whether they truly have any real risk for heart disease, creates multi-billion dollar profits for the drug companies! Can you say ka-ching?

The drug companies and their TV ads have convinced you and your doctor into prescribing unnecessary prescription drugs to healthy young people with perfectly normal cholesterol levels that just happen to be over this arbitrary number of 200 that they've come up with.

Note: Shortly, the medical industry will reduce this arbitrary number even lower to convince more people to take statin drugs. The medical industry is also targeting children, so parents beware!

As a result, more than 85 million Americans take statin drugs because they believe that statin drugs are good for them. Recent studies indicate that statins do more harm than just damage the liver, including muscle pain, muscle inflammation (myositis), heart muscle damage (rhabdomyolysis), heart disease, heart attacks, kidney damage, insulin desensitivity, diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer's, reduction of CoQ10 levels ... and, the list keeps growing ...

As time goes on and scientists continue to learn more about heart disease, it has become quite clear over the recent years that inflammation within the body (NOT cholesterol levels) is what causes plaque build up in the arteries and eventual heart disease. Inflammation can be caused by many personal factors such as stress, smoking, viruses, consumption of refined and/or hydrogenated fats, an imbalance of omega-6 polyunsaturated fats to omega-3 polyunsaturated fats in the diet, excess refined sugars in the diet, etc.

Lowering your cholesterol doesn't attack the root of the problem (what is actually causing the inflammation in you). Lowering your cholesterol does nothing except to make the drug companies rich, and possibly leave you with a whole assortment of possible negative side-effects such as liver damage.

So, why will most of you continue to take the dangerous and toxic statin drugs after reading this web page? Because you believe in your doctor!  And, the drug does actually lower your cholesterol. So from your viewpoint, the drug's working and you feel fine -- no side effects, right? Even if you're not going to stop taking the drugs, at least get your blood tested (for high homocysteine, CRP) and get liver tested!

And, keep in mind that since cholesterol-lowering statin drugs (such as Lipitor and Zocor) were introduced in the late 1980s, heart disease has risen approximately 2.4% every year, while statin drugs have become one of the top-selling drugs in the U.S. and around the world.

Please Note: Just because the drug does its job and you feel fine doesn't mean that everything is fine! If you go to the website for that medicine, you'll discover what your doctor may not be telling you about these drugs!

If you don't believe us, then, do your homework and visit reputable medical websites and clinical databases that support what we're trying to warn you about.

Diabetic Drugs Cause More Harm Than Good!

Drugs prevent reversing your diabetes!Author's Perspective: Have you ever heard of a diabetic getting better once he/she started taking metformin or some other diabetic drug? Gee, I wonder why!

What Your Doctor May Not Be Telling You
Drugs prevent reversing your diabetes!Unfortunately, most diabetics are told to take the diabetic drug metformin (Glucophage), because the drug helps to lower their blood glucose to the normal range. This gives the diabetic the false sense of security that the drug is actually helping their diabetes.

But, the doctor fails to tell the diabetic that the drug does absolutely nothing to stop the spread of the cell and tissue damage being caused by the diabetes! In fact, over a period of years, the drug actually causes damage to the liver and/or kidneys!

If you have have an adverse reaction to the drug (such as an upset stomach) your doctor will not tell you why this is happening -- instead, he/she will just put you on a different drug such as glimepiride (Amaryl) or glipizide (Glucotrol).

So, be careful, not to jump at taking this drug!  Once you start down the "path of prescription drugs", your doctor will eventually add one or two additional drugs, which is going to make it difficult for you to wean off the drugs later on.

Western Medicine uses various types of diabetic drugs such as metformin (Glucophage), glyburide (Micronase, DiaBeta) and glipizide (Glucotrol) to "treat" your diabetes.

So, do these drugs actually work?
It depends on your point of view. These drugs help to (artificially) lower your blood glucose level, so that it seems that the drugs are working. On the other hand, the drugs do absolutely nothing to help your body get rid of the diabetes! So, from that viewpoint, the drugs aren't working.

In fact, these drugs contribute to long-term cellular and tissue damage that leads to gastrointestinal problems, kidney failure, liver failure, and other health issues that your doctor may not mention to you.

Recently, the New England Journal of Medicine published a study that was supposed to prove what drug strategy for diabetics works the best. The study participants took several common diabetes drugs along with varied insulin treatments (once, twice, or three times per day).

But, the researchers were disappointed to find out that none of their strategies worked! The researchers appeared confused – unable to explain why their study didn’t work.

Let me explain why their study failed.  Using insulin in a Type 2 diabetic is a last ditch effort and should be avoided if at all possible. Insulin transports sugar out of the blood – but it must put it somewhere. All too often it forces the formation of fat, leading to weight gain and deteriorating health.  If sugar is forced into cells that don’t want it, it will damage them. In other words, insulin injections don’t fix anything.

Apparently the only thing doctors now know how to treat is the symptoms of a disease. If you want to fix someone with Type 2 diabetes, you need to re-balance their hormones and metabolic function. That means a plant-based diet, periodic exercise, and phytonutrients that help the body use sugar properly.
Drugs prevent reversing your diabetes!

And, make sure that you're aware of drugs such as Avandia, which was pulled by the FDA because the drug was causing "too many" heart attacks!

Avandia was originally approved even though the FDA knew that it caused heart attacks but it was within an acceptable range. What is an acceptable range for heart attacks? Isn't one heart attack too many?

Big Mistake!: Many diabetics believe that they are controlling their diabetes with these drugs. But, they're not!!

The drugs are actually hiding the symptoms of the diabetes, making  diabetics think that they're "controlling" their diabetes -- creating a false sense of security! In the meantime, the diabetes is still running rampant, causing organ, tissue, and blood vessel damage that goes undetected for years!

The top-selling prescription drugs in the U.S. are the drugs for diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol -- which happen to be the three major drugs given to most Type 2 diabetics.  Coincidence? (Don't think so!)

In addition, these drugs do not stop the development of diabetic complications such as amputation, kidney failure, blindness, stroke and heart attack. In fact, several recent studies have shown that some high blood pressure and cholesterol medications can actually fuel or cause diabetes!

If you find this hard to believe, just visit any of the pharmaceutical websites or google on "diabetic drug side effects" -- do your own research.

Health Impact of Drugs
Just like any other drug, these diabetic drugs Danger!create biochemical and hormonal dependencies within your body that can lead to long-term damage to your cells and organs.

If you are taking one of these drugs, it may be difficult to believe this, because you feel fine, you do not feel any discomfort or side effects.

However, many of the side effects will not be felt for several years, maybe even longer. But, eventually the following scenario will occur:

  • The drug loses its effectiveness and your blood glucose level starts to rise.
  • Your doctor increases the dosage to bring your blood glucose level back to the normal range.
  • If this doesn't work, your doctor adds a new drug.
  • Eventually when the oral drugs lose their effectiveness to lower your blood glucose level, your doctor will put you on insulin.
I know that you're probably thinking that if you keep taking the oral drugs and watch what you eat, you won't have to go on insulin.

But, that's not true. Why? Because while you were taking the drugs, the diabetes continued to progress (silently) and cause damage to more and more cells in your body. Eventually, the damage becomes so widespread that your doctor has to either increase your dosage, add another drug, or put you on insulin.

Please Note: Doctors shouldn't take the total blame here. Truth be told, most diabetics take the drug because it's easier to take a pill than to change one's diet. So, diabetics are partially complicit in taking the drug and not pushing back on their doctor for a non-drug solution.

Food for Thought: Diabetes is disease that is rotting out your insides. So, do you really believe that a pill can stop the rotting?

Note: Visit the Death to Diabetes website or read Chapters 3, 12, 14 and 15 of Death to Diabetes to learn how to decrease the damage caused by the long-term use of these drugs.

Warning!

Recent studies indicate that some drugs can damage to the pancreatic beta cells or trigger insulin resistance, causing you to develop diabetes! Those drugs include steroids, some hypertensives, statins, and some antibiotics. More specifically:
Drugs prevent reversing your diabetes!

Statins (e.g. Lipitor, Mevacor): These drugs do a great job at lowering your cholesterol by attacking your liver, which produces 80% of your cholesterol. As a result,
statin drugs have become the top--selling prescription drug in the U.S. with more than 80 million Americans taking this drug.

Unfortunately, while you may have good cholesterol numbers, these statin drugs may cause damage to your liver while increasing your risk for diabetes and cataracts!

These drugs also deplete your CoQ10 levels and may lead to muscle aching and a serious condition called rhabdomyolysis.

We have been bamboozled into believing that just because this drug lowers our cholesterol that we won't develop heart disease or have a heart attack. But, heart disease and heart attacks have risen since this drug was made available to the public in 1989! Recent studies now show that this drug can lead to damage to your heart muscle and your liver!  Read about the Statin Drug Hoax for more details -- especially if you're taking a statin drug.

Sulfonylureas (e.g. Glipizide, Glyburide): Nutrients such as chromium and magnesium lose efficacy, requiring careful monitoring  of therapeutic dosage.

Biguanides (e.g. Metformin): Known to induce vitamin B12 deficiency, likely via impaired absorption. Metformin may also cause lactic acidosis, may inhibit folic acid absorption, and elevate homocysteine levels, which can lead to arterial plaque formation and heart disease and the need for more drugs.

Thiazolidinediones (e.g. Pioglitazone): May increase the risk for osteoporosis and fracture, warranting careful monitoring of vitamin D status.

Drugs prevent reversing your diabetes!
Insulin (e.g. Humalog, Lantus): causes you to gain weight and remain diabetic! Long-term term use increases fat cells, which require more insulin.

This increases the dependency on the injections and ensures a complete reliance on the insulin injections – creating pancreatic beta cell dysfunction and the “insulin addiction trap”.

So, is it really worth it taking these drugs for your diabetes just because drugs are more convenient to take than changing your diet?

Why People Don't Eat Healthy Foods

Website Reference: http://www.deathtodiabetes.com/Meal_Planning_to_Reverse_Di.htmlSuper Meal Plate for Reversing Type 2 Diabetes

The term "meal planning" sounds boring, but proper meal planning is one of the key enablers for diabetics to eat healthy and be successful with controlling and reversing their Type 2 diabetes.

So, why don't diabetics (and non-diabetics for that matter) do a better job at meal planning and following a healthy diet?

There are 8 major reasons why most people (including diabetics) don't do a better job at planning their meals and following a healthy diet:

 1. Time/Convenience: Most people feel that they don't have the time to go grocery-shopping and prepare healthy meals every day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Also, it's a lot more convenient to just stop by McDonald''s or KFC on the way home from work or just call and order a pizza.

2. Motivation: Most of us are not motivated to eat healthy --- until one day we find ourselves diagnosed with a disease such as diabetes, or, we become severely overweight or obese; or, we have a wake-up call due to a heart attack.

3. Cost: Some people tend to believe that it cost more to eat healthy foods. Nothing could be further from the truth! Especially if you take into account the amount of money that is saved from prescription drugs, hospital stays, and surgeries.

4. Taste/Addiction: Most people love the taste of processed foods, fast food and junk food. This is due to the chemicals added to these foods that cause us to crave these foods. In other words, we become addicted to these foods (chemicals)!

5. Stress: Stress from work, finances, family problems, and life in general leads many of us to seek comfort in a bowl of ice cream or a plate of mashed potatoes or mac 'n cheese.

6. Knowledge/Awareness: Some people don't know how to plan and prepare healthy meals on a daily basis for their family; and, stay within a budget. We're not consciously aware of how we're influenced by the media to eat fast food and junk food. TV commercials have brainwashed us to eat fast foods and, by default, we ignore healthy foods. When was the last time you saw a TV commercial about broccoli? Ironically, TV tells you to eat fast food; and, then, when you get ill from all the years of ingesting the chemicals from the fast food, TV commercials then tell you to get a drug for your indigestion, constipation, headache, etc. Hello! When are we going to wake up?

7. Diet Complexity: Most diets are complex and difficult to follow and stick with -- since most diet programs are about rules, deprivation, calorie restriction and calorie counting. This leads to anxiety, frustration, and anger. Plus, in the long run, diets just don't work.

8. Access/Availability: Some of us, depending on where we live, don't have access to healthy and fresh foods.

But the good news is that the Death to Diabetes Super Meal Nutritional Program addresses all of these issues. This program does this by utilizing the following well-structured easy-to-follow Meal Plate that doesn't require any calorie counting.

Super Meal Plate reverses Type 2 diabetes.

Type 2 Diabetes Is Reversible!

Author's Perspective: Although there is no medically-approved cure for Type 2 diabetes, there is a lot of evidence that indicates that you can definitely stop the progression of the disease and prevent the development of the complications  such as amputation, kidney failure, and blindness. In addition, there is evidence that you can reverse the cellular and tissue damage caused by the diabetes and its complications.

More and more people are reversing their diabetes every day. Unfortunately, some of our clients (before they found us) were burned by several "cure diabetes" programs that made promises that they couldn't keep. The promises included being able to reverse your diabetes in 6 weeks, 30 days, 1 week, and even 3 days! Are you kidding me??

For any of you who understand the science of diabetes pathology, you know that you can't get rid of diabetes in less than 90-180 days because of the time it takes your body to turn over your red blood cells and repair the other damaged cells.

But, unfortunately, the average person does not have a science background. And, these companies and some of these doctors know that you lack the knowledge about science pathology. So, they take advantage of your lack of knowledge and lure you in with their empty promises and false money back guarantees.

If you're not sure whether the programs that you're researching are scams, then, read this web page so that you will understand how to recognize a scam before you spend your money.

List of Studies and Reports: Diabetes is Reversible
The list of medical experts who believe that Type 2 diabetes can be reversed is growing. The following studies and reports are just a few of the many cases that demonstrate that Type 2 diabetes is reversible in this country and around the world.

Dr. Mehmet Oz says diabetes is reversible.
Acceptance is growing among the mainstream medical community that type 2 diabetes is reversible. Dr. Mehmet Oz is among the many physicians who now say diabetes is completely treatable, and reversible, by making better lifestyle choices

As reported on Oprah.com, Dr. Oz stated:
“Most diabetes is preventable,” he says. “It is treatable, even reversible … Ninety percent of type 2 diabetics can actually reverse their problem.”

Note: Dr. Oz got into a little trouble with some of his TV show sponsors, so he has had to back off making too many statements about reversing type 2 diabetes, especially on national television (which is controlled to a large extent by the pharmaceutical industry).

Reversing diabetes is possible

UK Study shows diabetes is reversible
June 28, 2011
Researchers from Newcastle University have clearly shown that a strict low calorie diet can actually reverse the condition by normalizing blood glucose levels, reducing cholesterol levels and even stimulate the pancreas’s insulin producing cells (beta cells) to return to normal!
However, this was a small-scale study and involved just 11 people; 9 men and 2 women.
The full study was published in the June issue of the journal Diabetologia.

TYPE-2 DIABETES CAN BE REVERSED?
World Entertainment News Network
06-27-11
A new study suggests an extreme eight-week diet can reverse Type 2 diabetes in people newly diagnosed with the disease. Researchers at Britain's Newcastle University found the 600 calories-a-day diet reduced fat levels in the pancreas and liver, which helped insulin production return to normal. Seven out of 11 people who went on the diet, eating only liquid diet drinks and non-starchy vegetables, were free of diabetes three months later. But experts say more research is needed to see whether the reversal is permanent. Lead study author Roy Taylor says, "This diet was only used to test the hypothesis that if people lose substantial weight they will lose their diabetes. Although this study involved people diagnosed with diabetes within the last four years, there is potential for people with longer-standing diabetes to turn things around too."

Study finds Type 2 diabetes partly reversible
Tuesday, April 19th, 2011 | By Julia Brownell
Researchers at the School of Medicine have discovered that type 2 diabetes is at least in part an autoimmune disease. Their report, published in this month’s Nature Medicine, shows that B-cells appear in the inflammation of the visceral fat that precedes diabetes, and controlling them with drugs can actually prevent insulin resistance in mice on high-fat diets.

Diabetes: Can a Vegan Diet Reverse Diabetes?
By Andrew Nicholson, M.D.
Early studies suggest that persons with type 2 diabetes can improve and, in some cases, even reverse the disease by switching to an unrefined, vegan diet.  This is based on a carefully controlled test performed by  PCRM.

Working with Georgetown University, PCRM compared two different diets: a high-fiber, low-fat, vegan diet and the more commonly used American Diabetes Association (ADA) diet.

Fasting blood sugars decreased 59 percent more in the vegan group than in the ADA group. And, while the vegans needed less medication to control their blood sugars, the ADA group needed just as much medicine as before. The vegans were taking less medicine, but were in better control.
While the ADA group lost an impressive 8 pounds, on average, the vegans lost nearly 16 pounds. Cholesterol levels also dropped more substantially in the vegan group compared to the ADA group.

Dr. Mercola: Not only is type 2 diabetes completely preventable, but it is virtually curable for anyone who is willing to put in the hard time and work and recovering their insulin and leptin sensitivity.

The Diabetes Conundrum: What Physicians Are Teaching You May be Killing You - Read the surprising conclusion Dr. Rosedale, one of the leading diabetic doctors in the country, reaches about the current state of knowledge in diabetes.

The Rosedale diet: The real "cure" for diabetes is to eat a diet that promotes insulin and leptin sensitivity.

Natural Treatments For Diabetes: The Whitaker Wellness approach is very effective in reducing and often eliminating the need for oral diabetes drugs and insulin in patients with type 2 diabetes.
The Whitaker Wellness Institute’s approach to diabetes is twofold: to lower blood sugar and to reduce the risk of diabetic complications with diet, exercise, and targeted nutritional supplements.

Diabetes Can Be Treated Without Drugs: Julian Whitaker, MD; Jul 03, 2009
"Hundreds of clinical trials demonstrate that diabetes can not only be prevented but actually reversed -- not with drugs but with simple, inexpensive lifestyle measures."

Health and Medicine: Dr. Neal Barnard's Program for Reversing Diabetes (a vegan diet w/ low GI foods) outlines a nutritional approach to diabetes that claims greater efficacy and fewer complications than that of the American Diabetes Association diet, citing the examples of study participants who successfully improved their ability to respond to insulin, lost weight, and ended medication dependency.

The Diabetes Prevention Program study, a very large randomized clinical trial , by Deborah Greenwood, MEd, CNS, BC-ADM, CDE: (the most accurate study design) showed that you could reduce the development of diabetes by 58% by doing some simple things. 1. Lose 5-10% of your body weight by eating healthy, with calorie and fat reduction (only 25% of calories from fat). 2. Engage in physical activity for at least 30 minutes five times per week. These changes can significantly reduce the risk of developing diabetes. Other studies have looked at other types of weight loss such as using meal replacements. The global consensus is that if you lose weight and keep it off, you may be able to prevent diabetes as well as improve blood pressure and lab values.

Raw for 30 Days is an independent documentary film that chronicles six Americans with diabetes who switch to a diet consisting entirely of vegan, organic, live, raw foods in order to reverse diabetes naturally.
A medical team was established to monitor various health variables of the subjects. The diet: "No meat, no dairy, no alcohol, no caffeine, no refined foods, no junk food or fast food of any kind, no candies, no sugar".
Conclusion: Type 2 diabetes can be cured, or at least drastically reduce blood sugar, hemnoglobin a1c, blood pressure, cholesterol, weight, etc.

Doctors that say type 2 diabetes is reversible include the following  list of doctors.  In fact, some of these doctors have even developed their own diabetes programs by taking advantage of the raw food movement and the expanding acceptance of plant-based diets. Unfortunately, most of these doctoors take the safe approach and fail to mention the health issues with cow's milk, gluten, wheat, and other so-called healthy foods. The reason for this is that  most doctors don't really understand the science of food and nutrition. so, they take the easy way out and recommend the obvious without being controversial.

Get Started Today to Reverse and Cure Your Diabetes

Website Reference: http://www.deathtodiabetes.com/Reverse_Cure_Diabetes.html

The Death to Diabetes® Wellness Program is a science-based program that goes beyond just controlling your blood sugar to address the root causes that fuel your diabetes and cause the damage to your cells, blood vessels, and organs. As a result, your body is able to repair the damage, causing your blood glucose to return to the normal range and giving you the opportunity to reverse and defeat your diabetes.
This program uses a multi-faceted approach to attack your diabetes on multiple fronts, with super foods, detox, superior supplements, the right type of exercise, emotional support from our staff, spirituality, testing, the power of real knowledge, etc. This program also leverages your blood glucose testing to verify to you that your health is actually improving. With this verification, you will be more motivated to continue with the program because of the results you're experiencing.

Start your journey to wellness today!

STEP 1: Start your day with a Super Breakfast (which is based upon the "Death to Diabetes" Super Meal Model®).
So, what is the  Super Meal Model?

The Super Meal Model® is an integrated vegetable and plant based diet that includes attributes of the Mediterranean Diet, Zone Diet, South Beach Diet, and Asian Diet --  with nutritional modifications to specifically address the root causes of Type 2 diabetes.

So, why a vegetable plant-based breakfast?
This type of breakfast provides a more sustained level of energy and key nutrients that diabetics (and non-diabetics) are missing when they consume the more traditional grain-based breakfast. Some of those key nutrients (within the 5 key super foods) include Omega-3 EFAs, carotenoids, chlorophyll, magnesium, potassium, chromium, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, fiber, and water. For more information about these key nutrients and the health benefits of vegetables, read this web page.
In addition, by avoiding the grain-based breakfast, diabetics and non-diabetics will not experience the mid-morning “crash” or craving for processed food/beverages. Over time, this type of "super" meal will support blood glucose stabilization, cell repair and the regulation of the body's production and utilization of insulin.

Eating a superior breakfast sets the tone for the rest of the day to enable your body to fight your diabetes. Some diabetics skip breakfast, because they're afraid of the getting high blood sugar readings. But, don't skip breakfast! Skipping breakfast fuels your diabetes just as much as eating the wrong kind of breakfast.

Super Breakfast
  • 1½ cups steamed broccoli
  • Omega-3 organic egg or 3 oz. canned wild salmon
  • 1 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
  • 24 oz. filtered water
  • 1-2 cups raw vegetable juice (optional)
  • Optional: Add 1 scoop of super greens powder (e.g. wheat/barley grass) to a glass of water, raw juice or low-sodium V-8 juice.

Salad
A Super Salad with Avocado: Beat & Reverse Diabetes
Importance of Super Foods
These super foods perform the same function as the drugs, but without the side effects!

The good news here is that if you embrace these super foods, you will be able to change your body's chemistry such that a few months down the road, we will show you (in our cookbook) how to enjoy your bread, pasta, ice cream, or potato chips -- without having the same adverse reaction to your blood sugar!

Of course, that doesn't mean you can go hog-wild, but, at least, you will be able to once again enjoy life and not be worried about eating the 'wrong' food.

Super Snack
  • An apple (or pear/other whole fruit)
  • A handful of walnuts/almonds
  • A glass of filtered water
Super Lunch
  • A small salad (with Romaine lettuce, baby spinach, sprouts, onion, celery, cucumber, tomato, tuna, boiled egg, olive oil, apple cider vinegar)
  • Or,  a bean salad, bean soup, or turkey sandwich
  • A glass of filtered water
Super Dinner
  • 1 cup steamed Brussel sprouts and 2 cups steamed broccoli
  • 5 oz. baked skinless chicken breast
  • 2 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
  • 24 oz. filtered water
  • 1-2 cups raw vegetable juice
  • Optional Dinner: a raw salad that contains the aforementioned foods with Romaine lettuce, ground salba seed and organic salad dressing
Note: Always consult with your physician before making any dietary changes.

Reverse Type 2 Diabetes with Superior Nutrition

Superior nutrition, in the form of a balanced nutritional model, can be used to help defeat and reverse your Type 2 diabetes.  The Death to Diabetes wellness program uses such a model, that is referred to as the Super Meal Model.

The "Death to Diabetes" Super Meal Model is more than "a diet". It is part of a comprehensive 10-step wellness program that is designed to improve the health of people suffering with diabetes. This nutritional model is also designed to address high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, and chronic fatigue.

The "Death to Diabetes" Super Meal Model has many of the attributes of the Mediterranean Diet, Zone Diet, South Beach Diet, and Asian Diet --  with nutritional modifications to address the root causes of Type 2 diabetes.

For the science behind the Super Meal Model, read about nutritional science and the  clinical studies that the author used to design the model.

The "Death to Diabetes" Super Meal Model is truly THE Diabetes Diet, because it is specifically designed to help control, beat, and reverse Type 2 diabetes -- by providing a more sustained level of energy and key nutrients that diabetics (and non-diabetics) are missing when they consume the more traditional grain-based, overly-processed, nutrient-poor or starchy meal.

The "Death to Diabetes" Super Meal Model has a very nutrient-dense protocol
that provides nutrients that are key to the effectiveness of THE Diabetes Diet including: Omega-3 EFAs, carotenoids, antioxidants, chlorophyll, magnesium, potassium, chromium, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, fiber, water.

In addition, by avoiding the grain-based breakfast, diabetics and non-diabetics will not experience the mid-morning “crash” or craving for processed food/beverages. Over time, the "Death to Diabetes" Super Meal Model diet will support blood glucose stabilization, cell repair and the regulation of the body's production and utilization of insulin.

Super Meal Model Diet Attributes:

  • More frequent meals (4 to 6 times/day)
  • Smaller meals (400-500 calories)
  • Macro-nutrient Balance
  • (Super Carbs, Proteins, Fats, Liquids)
  • Key micronutrients, i.e. vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals)
  • High Fiber Content (30-35g/day)
  • Fermented Foods (3-5 times/week)
  • Raw Vegetables (50%-80%)
  • Some Raw Fruits
  • Nutritional Supplementation (Food-based)
  • Minimum/No HFCS, PHO, nitrates, artificial sweeteners, food additives
  • Minimum/No caffeine, alcohol, drugs
Key Point: This is not a low fat diet! Ironically, low fat diets helped to make us fat!

Super Carbohydrates
include many bright, colorful and green, leafy vegetables, some dark, colorful fruits, and some specific organic whole grains (but, not wheat bread!).
Super Proteins
include cold-water fish, nuts/seeds, fermented soy, organic dairy, lean animal meats (i.e. chicken, turkey, organic beef), wild animal meat (i.e. bison, ostrich, deer). Note: If you are concerned about the mercury in fish, eat smaller fish or take an Omega-3 supplement.
Super Fats include plant oils (but avoid clear vegetable oils or canola oil!), and the oil in nuts/seeds and cold-water fish.
Super Liquids include filtered water, raw vegetable juices; some raw fruit juices; specific teas; and, a couple of the organic bottled juices.

Refer to Chapters 6 and 7 of the Death to Diabetes book for a detailed list of all the super carbs, super proteins, super fats, and super liquids that support the
Death to Diabetes Super Meal Model diet.

Start eating the
Super Meals, including the Super Breakfast, the Super Lunch, and the Super Dinner, and watch your blood glucose level start to steadily come down!

Stick with the program and watch the pounds of fat melt off your body!

Author's Note:

Superior nutrition has a bigger impact on glucose tolerance and insulin resistance more so than any other wellness factor, including exercise.

My background in biochemistry and engineering, and my research into pathology, etiology, and epidemiology has helped me to understand diseases such as diabetes at the cellular level.

As a result, I am able to design nutritional protocols that help the body successfully fight diseases/maladies such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, and chronic fatigue.  Once you understand the
science of disease and. the science of nutrition, it's a lot easier to design wellness solutions that will actually work.

Reverse Type 2 Diabetes with Cleanse/Detox Methods

Cleansing/detoxification is a set of normal biochemical processes performed by the body to prevent and fight disease on a continual basis and to keep the body as healthy as possible. This cleansing/detoxification is optimized when we eat healthy foods the majority of the time.
However, in our fast-paced world it can be difficult to find the time to prepare healthy meals, especially, given the easy availability and accessibility of convenience and fast foods. Unfortunately, our bodies pay a heavy toll for eating unhealthy convenience foods, fast foods, and processed foods.
To compound the problem, our bodies are also bombarded with chemicals and pollutants on a daily basis from the air, water and environment. Under this heavy barrage of toxins, the cells become sick and the human body eventually reaches a point where it is no longer capable of flushing toxins and acid waste on its own. As the toxins and acid waste accumulate in the cells, blood, tissues, and organs, they trigger an increase in inflammation, the formation of pathogenic bacteria, fungus and mold, and lead to a state of poisoning commonly referred to as toxicity.

Common symptoms of toxicity include headaches, fatigue, increased allergy symptoms, overall aches and pains (particularly joint pain), and digestive discomfort. These symptoms occur when the body has become so clogged with toxins that it can no longer perform necessary functions effectively.
Toxins are generally acquired in one of three ways: through things we ingest (such as foods, drinks, drugs, etc.); through external sources (such as the air we breath, radiation, environmental chemicals, etc.); and, internally by the body’s own metabolic processes.
Over the past decade, extensive research has found that if the body’s detoxification system is sluggish, toxins will accumulate, slowing down cellular energy production and increasing the number of tissue-damaging free radicals. In addition, pathogenic bacteria continue to multiply faster than the immune system can kill them and remove their debris, creating an overloading and clogging of the lymphatic system and various organs.
This can eventually lead to various systemic diseases/ailments such as chronic fatigue, weight gain, high blood sugar, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, cancer, fibromyalgia, and Alzheimer’s. In the meantime, the body’s detoxification and excretory organs (e.g. colon, kidneys, liver, gallbladder, lymphatic system) struggle to effectively remove the toxins, excess glucose, and acid waste.
The liver is the primary organ that performs the detoxification. The liver accomplishes this by using specific enzymes to transform the toxins into intermediate chemicals; and, other enzymes to transform the intermediate chemicals into harmless water-soluble substances that are then excreted in the bile or urine. But, if the liver becomes sluggish, clogged, or impaired, these toxins can begin to accumulate in the body’s tissues and blood. Consequently, it is very important that the liver is kept as healthy as possible. Ironically, when we don’t feel well, we take an over-the-counter or prescription drug, which is toxic and only puts more stress on an already deteriorating liver and suppresses the symptoms, making us think we’re okay.
The colon (or large intestine) is important to cleansing and detoxification because it removes the unwanted fecal waste and other toxins. Discomfort in the colon usually manifests itself as something such as diarrhea or constipation. Unfortunately, our response to this is usually a drug, such as a laxative, to “force” the elimination of the fecal waste. But many of the other toxins are left behind and reabsorbed into the bloodstream attacking the tissues and organs, and producing their own pathogenic bacteria that attack the body’s weakest points. These attacks manifest themselves in the form of aches and pain in the back, joints, stomach, and head, and, then onto the other tissues and organs. This leads to more discomfort and more drugs, followed by more diseases, stronger drugs, hospital visits, and eventually death – unless the toxins are removed.
The kidneys are important to cleansing and detoxification because they filter the blood (210 quarts a day) by eliminating toxins and waste materials from the blood, and for maintaining the electrolyte balance by selectively eliminating some electrolytes while retaining others, according to the body’s needs. Electrolytes include sodium, potassium, magnesium, calcium and chloride. These electrolytes are important because they are used by the cells to maintain voltages across the cell membranes and carry electrical impulses (e.g. nerve impulses, muscle contractions) across themselves and to other cells. The kidneys also help regulate other bodily functions by secreting the hormones renin, erythropoietin, and prostaglandin. Renin helps control blood pressure, erythropoietin stimulates the body to produce more red blood cells, and prostaglandin helps control blood pressure, muscle contractions, and inflammation.
The high levels of glucose in the blood and the accumulation of acids in the kidneys cause the formation of kidney stones and ultimately cause kidney cells to die. Because kidney cells cannot be regenerated or repaired, the remaining cells have to work that much harder to filter substances from the blood. To help with the filtering process, the heart increases the flow of blood plasma to the kidneys, which in turn elevates blood pressure. As the kidney cells continue to die, the risk of kidney failure increases dramatically.
The lymphatic system is also important to cleansing and detoxification. As the blood circulates, providing nutrients and oxygen to all parts of the body, the lymphatic system accumulates dead bacteria and toxins that need to be removed. Lymphatic vessels are situated intricately alongside blood vessels, relying upon body movement to move the lymph fluid around to collect and drain away toxins and dead bacteria through the lymph nodes and skin (pores).
Cleansing/Detoxification
If the colon, liver, kidneys, lymphatic system, and other body systems are working properly, the body will cleanse and detoxify itself to get rid of the toxins. And, as long as the body is provided with the proper nutrients, the body will continue to cleanse and detoxify itself.
However, if you have a systemic degenerative disease/ailment such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, indigestion, or constipation, then, your body and its cells are sick and full of toxins, and are unable to cleanse and detoxify properly. Consequently, you will need to eat “live” super foods to help your body with the cleansing and detoxification until your body is healthy enough to perform the cleansing and detoxification on its own.
If you want to further accelerate the detoxification process, you should drink at least 2 cups of raw vegetable juices (with 1 tbsp. ground flaxseed or wheat grass powder), followed by 2 cups of filtered water at least 2 times each day. Within a few days you should notice an increase in your regularity (bowel movements) and a better texture of your fecal waste.
Then, depending on your health state, within two to three weeks you should notice an increase in your energy level and a reduction in your cravings for the “dead” processed foods. These are indicators that your body is cleansing and detoxifying itself and initiating the healing process.
To further accelerate this healing, and depending on the severity of your health state, it may be necessary to use wholefood supplements and organic herbal products to nourish the colon, liver, gall bladder, lymph nodes, and kidneys while protecting them from oxidative damage during the cleansing/detoxification process.
Why is cleansing/detoxification necessary? Let’s take a car that has not had an oil change or engine tune-up and has been running on cheap fuel for several years. If you switch from the cheap fuel to a higher-octane “super” fuel, the car may run a little better, but it will still run sluggish. Once you change the oil and air filters and tune up the engine, the car will run even better. The same principle applies to the human body – if you clean the filters (the kidneys and liver), then, this will help them to remove the buildup of toxins and waste and kill the pathogenic bacteria and parasites so that the body will run better.
If you are overweight by more than 20 pounds, more than likely, you are carrying as much as ten pounds of fecal matter packed in your colon. If you are also struggling with high cholesterol or high blood pressure, then, your body is carrying extra fluid/waste in your cells and tissues.
Consequently, cleansing the liver and kidneys, your body’s primary filters, will help the body to better release this extra fluid/waste. This will thin out the blood, hydrate cells, break down fats, absorb protein, convert glycogen to glucose, turn on the body’s natural healing mechanisms, and, in most cases, lower blood pressure, inflammation, cholesterol, glucose levels, and body weight.
